Kate Carlisle’s 2010 debut novel, Homicide in Hardcover, marked the start of her hugely popular Bibliophile Mystery series.

Inspired by her own lifelong passion for bookbinding, she centers the series around protagonist Brooklyn Wainwright – a specialist bookbinder and book restorer living in San Francisco.

In the series debut, Brooklyn’s friend and mentor, Abraham Karastovsky, is viciously attacked. Lying there on the floor in a pool of his own blood, he utters his dying message, “Remember the Devil,” before handing Brooklyn a rare and apparently cursed copy of the famous tragic play, Goethe’s Faust.

Moments later, Abraham is dead, and a bereft Brooklyn is kneeling over his body as the local security officer, Derek Stone, arrives at the scene. Derek sees the book in her hands and jumps to the wrong conclusion, and suddenly, Brooklyn finds herself as suspect number one.

And so now, she must follow the clues Abraham left behind to find the true killer before she goes to jail for a murder she didn’t commit.
