The holidays are approaching, and you may be wondering which are the best e-readers to give the book lovers in your life. There are so many options on the market, but none of them compare to the Barnes & Noble Nook Glowlight 3. Its competitor the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite has great features – but are they good enough?  We’ve put both e-readers to the test and found out what makes the Nook the superior e-reader of the two.

The Noble Nook Has Better Resolution

One of the perks the Nook has is that the resolution is better than the Paperwhite. If you’re a night owl who is an avid reader then you will love the versatile display that the Nook has to offer. It can adjust to night mode or brighten to different levels for the day. This is something the Kindle lacks although the brightness can adjust.

The Nook has a 300 DPI screen with a built-in glare-scratch and fingerprint resistant lens making it durable and easier on the eyes. This means no more squinting trying to read books on your e-reader.  Books will be a lot more vibrant on your Nook than they will be on the Paperwhite’s 300 PPI display. You may be wondering what the difference is between the PPI and DPI when they are both 300. Although they have the same number they are definitely not the same at all. DPI is meant for print while PPI is meant for images. That is why the words on the Nook seemingly pop off the page while the Kindle has a more pixelated look to it.

Impressive Battery Lifetime

Who likes to continually have to charge their device? We know we don’t which is why the Nook is so great. The Nook is able to stay charged and used for 50 days straight before having to plug it in again. This is great if you are on vacation and forget to bring your charger or some other unfortunate situation.

The Kindle stays charged for only 6 weeks or 42 days and sometimes less if you’re constantly using it. The Paperwhite just doesn’t perform when it comes to battery life as the Nook does. Everyone knows that a high battery on the best e-reader is a top request for all book lovers regardless of the time of year.

Availability of Books

One of the great things about the Nook is that it has access to a plethora of books provided by, its creator, Barnes & Noble. You can get any book on any topic you can think of at the touch of a button. Barnes & Noble calls the books “Nook Books” to allow you to know that these are e-books that go with their Nook.

Unlike with Amazon, you’ll be able to find out what is coming soon so you can preorder the books you want. Once they are available they’ll be right on your Nook. Amazon only offers kindle books that have been published and ready to be bought. When we went to the Amazon site it appears that they do show the new books, but there was nowhere to pre-order.

The Nook Reading App

Something else missing from the Kindle Paperwhite is the highly customizable Nook reading app. This app is every book lover’s dream. No matter what time of day, you will be able to adjust the apps brightness to fit the morning, evening, and even the night. This helps you not be limited to reading in the day and to be able to enjoy your book anywhere at any time.

If you like to stay organized, you will love the ability to customize your e-books, magazines, and your personal files. Nook allows you to create a virtual bookshelf that is easy to use. That will help you be able to find the book or magazine you want with ease because, just like a real bookcase, you’ll know where everything is at.

Another commendable feature that Barnes and Noble incorporated into this app, is the ability for the blind and those with low vision to read. If you have an iPhone, you will be able to use the Apple Assistive Technology, the screen magnification feature, and voice over. This will help any reader no matter the seeing ability to be able to enjoy their books.

The Nook Reading app allows book lovers to stay informed with the latest book news. By visiting the Barnes and Noble Readouts within the app, you can get all types of book excerpts and articles to read. It is also great to see other’s reviews on books you may want to read or hadn’t seen before.

Although the Kindle has an app too, it doesn’t keep in mind the different types of readers with different abilities. It also isn’t as customizable as the Nook app. Bottom line, the Kindle app just mirrors the Paperwhite’s abilities instead of enhancing the user experience like the Nook reading app does.

Better Price Point

What’s better than getting the best e-reader? Getting that e-reader at a great price!  The Nook Glowlight 3 is more affordable than its Kindle Paperwhite competitor. This new, state of the art technology is only $120 compared to the $130 you spend for the Kindle. For the price, you’ll get amazing features you can’t find in any other e-reader and an interactive app to go with it.

A $10 difference may not seem like much, but when you take into account all that you’ll get in this handheld device it will be worth it. Plus, that is $10 you can save today.

Conclusion

The Nook vs Paperwhite will be a never-ending rivalry. Now that you know the difference it is up to you to divide which is the best e-reader. We personally prefer the Nook due to its features, high resolution and better price to name a few.

We can assure you that if you buy the Nook, your reading experience will change for the better. You’ll be able to read longer with its longlasting battery and will be able to enjoy the perks of having your bookcase with you wherever you go.
